6 Reasons To Delete Your Reddit Account

Not sure if deleting your Reddit account is the right move? Here are 6 reasons why many people and brands opt to permanently delete their Reddit account information.

  • Digital Footprint: For some people, it simply feels good to lessen their digital footprint. It’s common for people to want to minimize their digital presence or start over with a clean slate (as much as possible).
  • Outdated Content: Some users have Reddit accounts for brands that no longer exist. When your personal or professional brand has changed, it’s smart to update your social media accounts to only focus on what’s best for you and your audience.
  • Personal or Professional Reputation: Individuals as well as business owners may want to remove all of their Reddit content, including their account, to prevent negative content from impacting their online reputation.
  • Privacy and Security Concerns: Since Reddit can store a user’s activity indefinitely, some people may want to remove their information for better online privacy. Aside from basic privacy, some people may even feel exposed to security threats like doxxing, hacking or identity theft when their information is on Reddit.
  • Time Management and Productivity: Reddit — like all social media platforms — can eat up a lot of time due. Those who feel addicted to Reddit and tempted to always log in may want to delete their account to remove the distraction.
  • Toxic Red Communities: Whether you’re discussing a topic as heated as politics or one as mild as which workout equipment to buy, some subreddits are brimming with toxic Reddit users. Getting rid of Reddit may be a way to escape negative commentary, harassment or trolling.

You can take control of your online reputation beyond getting rid of Reddit posts. Call us at 844-461-3632 for more information.

Deleting Your Reddit Account vs. Deleting Your Reddit Content

It’s important to know that deleting your Reddit account will not remove your comments, messages and posts. Instead, that content will be disassociated from your account, but it will still exist on Reddit. In the place of your username, “Deleted” will show up.

Here’s an example of left-behind content after the user deleted their account:

If you want to truly remove all traces of your Reddit account, it’s best to delete that content before deleting your account. In this guide, we’ll begin by showing you how to delete your Reddit comments, messages and posts. After that, we’ll walk you through deleting your Reddit account.

Deleting your Reddit account is a great first step toward building a stronger online reputation. By leaving Reddit in the past, you can create and promote content that better reflects your personal or professional brand.

Think about the platforms where your target audience spends their time. Additionally, consider which platforms are best for delivering your brand message.

Do you communicate with visuals? If so, Instagram may be a good option. Are you targeting an audience of professionals? It may be time to add LinkedIn to the mix.

Reputation management is about much more than removing negative content. It’s also about creating positive content that contributes to the digital reputation you strive for.
